Welcome to the Clare lab

In the Clare lab we are primarily interested in how species interact in natural ecosystems. We build food webs, or interaction networks using cutting edge genomic tools. Then we look at how networks function and how they change in time and space.

Most of our work is with bats because they have so many ecological roles, seed dispersers, pollinators, carnivores, insectivores, sanguivores… even parasites. They are extraordinarily diverse.

Using DNA and next generation sequencing we can use forensic methods to reconstruct all these interactions. We work in interesting places with interesting species and we are always surprised by what we find.
