We are studying repeat diversity across the range of plant genome sizes. We have shown that there are changing patterns of repeat dynamics in species with large genomes compared with those with small genomes.
We are now asking: [1] What are the ecological and evolutionary costs of repetitive DNA? [2] What processes are responsible for their removal from the genome? [3] What processes constrain their amplification?
