We have recently purchased a state-of-the-art genome analysis platform (Irys™ System, BioNano Genomics). The 10,000x drop in DNA sequencing cost since 2007 has created exciting novel opportunities, yet genomic assemblies can still be poor. Irys™ enables us to arrange genomic fragments (i.e., scaffolds) into chromosomes using nanochannel mapping [Nature Biotech. 30:771, 2012]. It outperforms alternative approaches and offers a cost effective means to increase completion and accuracy of de novo genome assemblies. If you are interested in an IRYS assembly of your plant genome(s) using our IRYS™ platform, then please contact me.
